“Health Ministry revises non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) guidelines: What do they mean for prevention?
In an exclusive story with The Indian Express, Dr. Arvinder Soin, Chairman and Chief Surgeon, Medanta Liver Transplantation Institute, shares insights on the updated non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) guidelines issued by the Health Ministry. He highlighted that over a third of Indian adults suffer from NAFLD, a condition that is increasingly prevalent due to rising rates of obesity and diabetes. He stated that the disease often remains asymptomatic in its early stages, making early diagnosis challenging, but it can lead to severe liver damage if left untreated. He emphasized the importance of lifestyle modifications—such as regular exercise, weight management, and a balanced diet—in preventing the accumulation of liver fat and managing the progression of NAFLD.
